Generic pharmaceuticals replacing branded drugs
The generic pharmaceuticals do not have any trade mark however they operate under the guidelines of FDA or any other concerned legitimate body. Several prescription drugs & medicines manufactured by generic pharmaceuticals companies are comparatively low priced than its branded kinfolk. The reason behind this huge contrast in prices is the heavy investment borne by the branded drugs manufacturing companies which is not applicable to generic pharmaceuticals.
In general, branded drugs undergo three stages of production which are generally not required by generic pharmaceuticals, these are research & development stage, legal certification of the product stage, marketing stage.
Research & development stage: - Undoubtedly, a large portion of investment is employed during the research & development of new drugs and medicines.
Legal certification: - These new drugs or medicines are then sent to the government bodies to get the license & patent which again costs lots of money.
Marketing stage: - After the medicine gets copyrighted its proper marketing is done through different channels of media such as radio, television, newspapers etc again costing a large sum of money.
Thus, after considering all these expenses & manufacturer’s profitability factor in mind, the cost of branded drugs is calculated which are certainly higher than that of the generic pharmaceuticals. |
